The VORTEX has a rotating sound head typically mounted on top of a telephone pole. The sound producing head has four speakers each being supplied with 400 watts of audio power. This head and the speakers employed are specifically designed for maximum efficiency at frequencies used for outdoor warning applications. This design produces 126 dB of output sound when measured in compliance with ANSI standard S12.14-1992.
As with all WHELEN products, this can be utilized in conjunction with existing older model mechanical sirens and still have a common format of encoding the various commands.
